Sports
From batting cages to rock climbing to gaga ball to tennis, sports play an important role at Redwood. Campers are encouraged to participate in all sports in order to maximize their overall enjoyment and build their self-confidence. Friendly sports tournaments are a particular favorite. The Redwood sports program challenges the children in their problem-solving skills and inspires boys and girls to be creative and persevere.
Swimming
At Redwood, there is an emphasis on swimming, beginning with daily swim instruction in the morning, and general swim and/or waterslides in the afternoon. We teach the Redwood Swim Program, which emphasizes six swimming strokes and important water safety skills, in twelve levels. The new precise and smaller teaching units enables children to achieve swimming levels more quickly and with even greater success. Feedback is given every two weeks through a progress report which clearly describes the achievement of swimming skills. With four heated outdoor pools and over twenty qualified instructors, campers gain confidence and pleasure in the water.
Redwood's two waterslides are a real hit! The Speedway, 7 ft. wide, 55 ft. long and 8 ft. high, is specially designed for the little ones. It features a non-skid surface at the start and a gentle slope, and is a real winner with our small sliders. Its easy comfortable ride builds up the confidence of the younger children in the water and delights the older campers as well. The Typhoon Twister is 130 ft. long and 17 ft. high. Its twists and dips are irresistable and thrill every camper. The slide has been carefully designed to provide an exciting and safe water slide adventure. Redwood's aquatic director will be supervising over twenty swim staff. As always, safety is our priority as we encourage the children to enjoy the water.
Rock Climbing
Your children will enjoy the adventure of climbing our 24 ft. rock climbing wall. Skilled specialists teach the campers how to climb with the use of ropes and karabiners. Campers learn creative ways of tackling the wall, using different moves, handholds, footholds and resting positions. The wall is appropriate for all ages, from 4 to 15. Six faces of the wall provide for different levels and abilities. Children are challenged to do the best they can. This climbing mountain is specially designed for our campers, keeping their safety in mind at all times. The camper is securely attached to a safety rope with a harness, and there is a secondary rope attached to a unique braking system designed by Redwood for added security.
Rock climbing is world-reknowned and is used in many outdoor facilities as a challenging learning activity. It is an excellent teaching tool in developing children's problem-solving skills and inspiring them to be creative and persevere. No matter how high they climb, campers develop a sense of accomplishment in this activity.
Nature & Science
Campers participate in a wide variety of activities that focus on Nature and Science. Popular topics and activities include: Studying the balance of nature in sea life with our own 350 gallon salt water reef aquarium. Saving the environment through recycling and studying the effects of acid rain. Tree planting – learning how to plant a tree and appreciating the value of the trees in our environment. Arts, Dance, Pottery, Beading....

An experienced and imaginative specialty staff provides campers with an interesting variety of materials in Arts and Crafts, Pottery and Beading/Jewelry Making. Special programs are planned in dance and a Redwood Variety show is organized to encourage the children's creativity and build their self-confidence.

Several levels are introduced, from the basics of learning how to ride a bike to a challenging dirt bike path for the more experienced rider. As always, safety is our guiding principle with the campers required to wear biking helmets. Biking is an excellent physical exercise and a real challenge for the campers.
Gaga Ball
One of the newest additions to Redwood is Gaga Ball. A special court has been built for the campers with a sandy base, with lots of room for jumping and tossing the ball. Campers quickly learn the rules of the game and have a great time with their fellow campers and counselors. The games go quickly, with lots of opportunity for everyone to play. Campers never feel left out or bored, and can’t wait to play the game.
